Born in 1924, in Vancouver, Bristish Columbia, the family moved to Los Angeles during the great Depression. At the young age of 10, Sam spent time working in Hollywood as an extra. At 18, Sam enlisted in the military and after a 14 month duty with the U.S. Army, he returned to Los Angeles to attend the Chouinard Art Institute. Sam began working for Disney in 1954 creating sketches for Disney's new theme park. In the course of the next 32 years, Sam's magical touch would reach every land inside Disneyland. Long known as the master map maker, Sam was the primary Disneyland souvernir map creator from 1958 to 1964. Sam's presence and endearing smile are present at many Disney events and his artwork is often displayed at the Disney Gallery.
In 1996, Sam McKim was named a Disney Legend.

This is another window on main street. Is this where the Disneyland map was made and all the lands were planned?
